Boko Haram kills nine soldiers in Adamawa- Damboa border

Nine   soldiers were reportedly killed in a gun battle with members of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in Izhe village, in the northern part of the Adamawa State and Damboa, in Borno State.
Reports had it the Boko Haram gang laid ambush in the border areas of Izhe village, in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa state and that of Damboa, in Borno South, where they attacked soldiers.
Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, Mr. Maina Ularamu, who confirmed the reports, however, could not ascertain the number of casualties on the side of Boko Haram. He, however, revealed that some soldiers, who were on a mission to repel the insurgents, were killed.
“The soldiers were going to repel a planned attack at Izhe border village when they were ambushed by the heavily armed insurgents,” he said
The chairman further said the incident had elicited fears and apprehension in most of the villages at the border areas, stressing that some of the villagers had since fled to Madagali, the administrative headquarters, for fear of possible attacks.

He said owing to incessant attacks in his local government of late, there was need for the authority to draft more troops to the area.
An eyewitness confirmed that the bodies of the killed soldiers were deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.
“Nine corpses of the killed soldiers were deposited here at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola; we only counted nine for now,” he said.
Also, Ularamu said the insurgents were well armed with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons mounted on their vehicles.
Daily Sun gathered that the troops were left to face the heavily armed insurgents, who attacked them from different directions, as villagers said there was aerial support to the soldiers.
Efforts made to get the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade, Yola, Brigadier General Rogers Nicholas, to comment on the incident proved abortive but a soldier from the brigade, who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Sun that the army was contacting families of the deceased, after which their identities would be disclosed.
