Confab: There shouldn’t be no go areas –Kalu

Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has insisted that the country must discuss everything concerning its existence in the proposed national conference even as he announced that he is not contesting for now.
Speaking at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, Dr. Kalu said if Nigeria must sit down and talk, there should be no inhibition or no go areas as far as the national conference is concerned.
He said the discussion should be convoked such that all the existing ethnic nationalities must be represented and there should be freedom for all to express their views as it affects the unity of Nigeria.

Kalu said: “I don’t believe there should be no go areas as far as the national conference is concerned. If we must discuss, we must discuss all, where all the ethnic nationalities should come and sit and discus the unity of Nigeria. I don’t believe that Nigeria will break-up, but if the people that make up Nigeria sit down and discus a break-up, then, that is the only time it will happen.”
He explained that why he opted out as a delegate to the conference was purely based on the fact that he is now fully into business and may not have much time to spend in the conference.
“Why some of us opted out of the conference is simple, I opted out, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and Prof. Ben Nwabueze opted out, the reason I opted out is simple, because I fly in and out of the country on almost daily basis and may not have all the time to put into the conference but we meet in Abuja to educate our people on how to go there and represent the interest of Ndigbo,” he said.
On the 2015 general elections, the former Abia State governor said as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he would support whoever the party presented as its candidate, adding that he is not contesting for any elective post in future election.
“As a member of PDP, I will support any candidate the party shall present in 2015. I am not contesting anything because I am out of politics for now. Our job now is to make sure that the country is moved to the next level,” Kalu said.
