Conservative media outlets were abuzz this afternoon after Pope Francis took to Twitter to take a swing at traditional marriage. Following a dinner at the Vatican that hosted 1000+ gays, the Pope tweeted the following: -
The tweet has since been removed, but not before Fox News broke from its regularly scheduled programming with the BREAKING NEWS and set the Conservative blogosphere on fire. The Pope has come under fire recently for aligning the Catholic Church with the radical left-wing elements in America and more specifically President Obama. In May of this year, the Pope attacked capitalism by tweeting “My thoughts turn to all who are unemployed, often as a result of a self-centered mindset bent on profit at any cost,” and just recently referred to unfettered capitalism as evil. Previously he has made statements suggesting that gays and atheists will be permitted in heaven.
Conservative leader Sarah Palin was recently forced to issue an apology for criticism of the Pope posted via her Facebook page.
“It was not my intention to be critical of Pope Francis,” Palin wrote Thursday on her Facebook page. “I was reminding viewers that we need to do our own homework on news subjects, and I hadn’t done mine yet on the Pope’s recent comments as reported by the media.”
She continued, “I apologize for not being clearer in my response, thus opening the door to critical media that does what it does best in ginning up controversy.”
“He’s had some statements that to me sound kind of liberal, has taken me aback, has kind of surprised me,” Palin said. “Unless I really dig deep into what his messaging is, and do my own homework, I’m not going to just trust what I hear in the media.”
The Vatican has not yet responded for comment.
