An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalaga, the Federal Capital Territory, during the week sentenced a labourer, Emmanuel Nwabueze, to nine months imprisonment for stealing a pot of soup.
The judge, Alhaji Alhassan Kusherki, who sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the charge, gave him an option to pay N30,000 fine.
Kusherki ordered the convict to pay N11,000 as compensation to the complainant, Uche Sunday.
Nwabueze, 22, who resides at Angwan Tiv in Gwagwalada, was arraigned on a three-count charge of trespass, house-breaking and theft.
