Osaze Odemwingie leaves Cardiff and signs one-and-a-half year deal with Stoke City

FORMER Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie has signed a one-and-a-half year deal with Premiership club Stoke City completing a switch from Cardiff City that will see him stay at the potters until the end of the 2014/15 season.   Osaze, 32, who joined Cardiff at the beginning of the season has struggled to find his feet in Wales since joining in the summer and following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Bluebirds new manager, he is out of favour. Osaze was signed by former manager Malky Mackay, who was sacked earlier this month after a string of poor results.   Keen to arrest Cardiff's ongoing slide down the Premier League table, new boos Solskjaer has decided that he needs to add more firepower to his attack. Subsequently, he has decided to sign Stoke city targetman Kenwyne Jones and Osaze has been thrown into the package deal agreed between the two clubs.   Osaze has already completed a medical at Stoke and Jones is expected to complete his medical either today or tomorrow.  Having scored only two goals in 17 matches for Cardiff following his £2m move from West Bromwich Albion in the summer, Osaze knows he needs to improve to force his way into Nigeria's World Cup squad and is hoping this switch to Stoke will facilitate that.   A stoke City spokesperson said: "Stoke City can confirm it has reached an agreement with Cardiff City over a move for striker Peter Odemwingie that will see Kenwyne Jones head to South Wales in a player-exchange transfer. The deal is subject to both players passing medicals and agreeing personal terms but the Potters hope to conclude their move for the Nigerian international over the weekend."   Jones fell out with Stoke Potters after being dropped for the club's 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last week, following his refusal to play against Liverpool six days before. A Trinidad and Tobago international, he became the Potters' record signing when he joined them in August 2010 from Sunderland for £8m and went on to score 26 goals in 115 appearances.   Osaze started his career in Nigeria with Bendel Insurance before switching to Belgian side La Louviere. Further stints at French club Lille and Lokomotiv Moscow followed before he joined the Baggies for £2.5m in 2010. - See more at:
